STATEMENT OF INTENt
What is the theme
My goal is to be able to show my knowledge, ideas and the development of stages throughout the website that shows my progress and confidence in this subject of 'Texture'. Then I can display the progress of the first image and my final image that would show my capability of improvement. I made a mood board to show my ideas and understanding of texture. It includes man made texture and natural texture such as brick and sand. The mood board will boost my knowledge and I can always depend on it if I need ideas.
Which artist/photographers are you going to researchand why
For my initial research I will look into photographers that mainly specialise in the work of 'Texture' such as Michal Durinik. I chose Michal Durinik because he produces a mixture of man made and natural Textures. Such as amazing landscapes and detailed images of statues. I think I can get a lot of inspiration from him because he gives a wide range of ideas and paths on which type of texture I want to work more on to produce my final piece .
What will you do for your first inital research
For my initial research I will start by looking at previous students. Because they know what they are doing and they got high marks. Then I will start to research other artists and photographers. This will help me by understanding what they know and it will give me inspiration and knowledge.
what photoshoots do you intend to complete
To show my progression through my work I will start by creating a photoshoot that would consist of different types of textures like leaves, bricks and other man made/ natural textures. To add more to my work I would transfer the images I took to photoshop and edit them to make them stand out and catch the eyes of the viewer that is observing my image.
To further improve my ideas I would venture out into the world to capture the land scape of the rural environment within nature.

How are you goimg to experriment/what equipment
I am going to experiment with different types of equipment such as different lenses for the cameras to show the types of quality the difference they put of the image and see which one I prefer the most to my liking. Another type of equipment I can use is the infinity curve that would allow another perspective of the the object that I use for the photoshoot. Also instead of using my camera that the school provides the Canon DSLR. I can also use my own phone camera. This also allows me to take more images outside of school to show my creativity.
How will you show progress
To show my progress I will make a time line that will show my development
throughout stages in this subject of Texture. I will then continue to develop my work with photoshop and then venture out into nature to expand my my project. When I have finished my project I will then show my best and worst and add it to my final gallery. And they will show my progression.

What do you hope to learn
I would hope to learn more about Photoshop and develop my understanding. I will also look at tutorials they will help me step by step

Edward Weston research
Composition
In my opinion the thing that stands out mostly is the black and white contrast in the image, which has an impact of bringing out the texture. This is done by the contrasting highlights which creates the shadow and brings out the shape of the cabbage.
Another thing that stands out is the darker areas, because your eyes need to focus to see the detail. You can also see where the photographer held the lighting, from the top right, so they could get the cabbage to look more 3D and interesting.
Another thing that stands out to me is the infinity curve/Studio that he used to make it look like it is floating freely and it also makes the image look clean and sharp. This creates a shallow depth of field, making the cabbage come right to the front of the picture frame, almost like you could reach out and touch it.
The photographer has cropped it quite tightly. The image is also very tightly cropped so that you only focus on the object. The image has been taken at a level, so your eye is drawn into the centre, where the eye finds it interesting. I can see that the photographer has used the rule of thirds with the white stem sitting on the 'sweet spot' There are strong leading lines created by the veins of the cabbage that flow from the top right to the bottom left, helping the composition of the image. These are techniques I might use in my own work.

Context
I have been researching Edward Weston and this is the information I found on the internet:
"Edward Weston, an American photographer was born in Highland Park, Illinois. Weston began to make photographs in Chicago parks in 1902, and his works were first exhibited in 1903 at the Art Institute of Chicago. Three years later he moved to California and opened a portrait studio in a Los Angeles suburb. The Western landscape soon became his principal subject matter. In the 1930s, Weston and several other photographers, including Ansel Adams, Imogen Cunningham, and Willard van Dyke, formed the f/64 group, which greatly influenced the aesthetics of American photography. In 1937, Weston received the first Guggenheim Fellowship awarded to a photographer, which freed him from earning a living as a portraitist".

Connection
We are looking at Edward Weston's work because he was looking at texture and detail and I can use it to inspire my own outcomes. He brings out the texture as the main element of his photography and so he is a good starting point for me.
inspiration, my own workAs you can see in this image that I took, I have focused on texture and detail in the patterns in the cabbage. This is just how Edward Weston did with his image.

Sandra Bartocha research
context
I have gotten this information from Sandra Bartocha's website https://www.bartocha-photography.com/index.php?section=portfolio&sub_portfolio=neuefotos&page=1&img_id=13&info=false.s5
- born in 1980 and raised in Mecklenburg-West Pomerania
- Studied media science, English and educational science in Potsdam
- freelance nature photographer and artistic wedding photographer
composition
Sandra Bartocha (the photographer)has used the rule of thirds in this photograph, with the orange bracken filling two thirds of the image and the blue/grey trees filling the last third. This makes the foreground really pop out. She has also framed the image by placing the tree on the side of the image so it doesn't block the background but frames the rest of the shot. She also uses a green plant and puts it right next to the tree to make it stand out from the rest of the shrubs in the image, as it is a contrasting colour to the orange bracken. She makes the background darker than the foreground to make the foreground pop and show its natural colour. I can also see leading lines she has used to make the eye focus on the on the specific area to show the level of detail and texture, these are created by the tree trunks that bunch through the bracken.
In my opinion I think she has taken the image in the early morning as | can see soft lighting from the rising sun. The image has been tightly cropped which makes you feel like you are standing in the woods, right next to the photographer.

Comment
In my opinion I think Sandra Bartocha is a very good photographer and I think some of her work connects to my work For example, when we went to Padley Gorge in the Peak District, we took some similar photos of the landscape and the forest. Also this image looks very soft, showing that it has been taken in the early hours of the morning. I personally like photos with a single object and a little less colour that shows the boldness of the object and you can focus on.
Connections
Her work links to what we will be doing in our GCSE photography as we will be going to Padley Gorge. Whilst we are there we will be taking images of the area and what catches our eye the most. We might also go to London, that will give us the opportunity to take pictures of the urban landscape. Then we will have both sides of photography (man made/natural).

Context
*THIS INFORMTATION IS FROM RICHARD WESTONS WEBSITE*
A California native, I was born and raised in Southern California. My eventual photographic interests were shaped at an early age by family trips along the California Coast and to the Canadian Rockies. Though I had always enjoyed looking at landscape photography I didn’t take an interest in photography until in college. Prior to then I had always thought of photography as “boring” studio portrait sessions and wedding photography. A few years later, I discovered the works of Galen Rowell through a copy of Outdoor Photographer magazine that my cousin had brought along on a road trip. That inspired me to pursue photography as a lifestyle. Richard Wong.

Composition
Richard Wong (the photographer) has taken an image of the forest with a tree in the middle that stands out from the rest of the surrounding area. In my opinion I think that Richard Wong has taken this image in the early morning as the lighting is quite soft. You can see where the sunlight is catching the top of the grass/moss mounds at the bottom of the photograph. There is a strong composition to this image as the tree is in two thirds of the image, so the photographer has used the Rule of Thirds which draws your eye to the sweet spots. The main tree trunk is in the center of the image and the branches create leading lines across the photograph. They stand out against the soft leaves and add interest to the image. I can see a graduated colour to the leaves, starting off as a soft orange/red and mixing to a bright green. The photo has been taken at eye level which makes you feel close to the tree and has been tightly cropped. I think he may of used a tripod to take the shot, possible a telescopic lens as we can really see the detail textures. The Fstop would have been around F11 and the ISO 100.
Connection
My work is similar to Richard Wong's images in the way that we both take images of the outdoors and nature and in particular, in the autumn time. I also took photos of trees and tried to bring out the texture of the leaves. I also tried different compositional techniques to make my images stand out.
Comment
In my opinion I think that Richard Wong is a great photographer because I can see that he has put a lot of thought into his work, it is very professional and he understands good compositional techniques. I think he takes pride in his work which results in good outcomes.

what was the project theme and what did you think of it
what technique would you like to develop further
I would like to develop more on photoshop so I can expand my learning and to be able to show my images more clearly
which photographers did you research
The technique I enjoyed the most was photoshop because it helped me improve my work and more interesting than the other techniques, such as setting the manual camera on different settings.
I mainly feel successful in the photoshoots because I prefer taking pictures than working on a computer. I also like to improve my work my editing it on photoshop.
I found a couple of problems when I was using photoshop because some of my work got deleted so I had to do it all again. However, I taught myself how to put in geometric shapes and use multiply layers and was pleased with my final gallery.
The way I learned was that I took photographs and developed my knowledge and skills with the settings so I got used to them. Then I was able to use them when I needed to. The settings I learnt to adapt was the ISO, the WB, the exposure, the shutter speed and the aperture.
The way I would do thing different is that I would plan things out and research things. I would also improve my work by bringing in my own objects to take photos of.
Some of the photographers I researched was Richard Wong, Sandra Bartocha and Edward Weston. I mainly focused on Edward Weston because I have done some of the same type of work as him and used his photos to inspire my own.
My main theme was different textures and I explored the different types such as man made and natural.
I thought that the theme was good because I was able to take images of objects I like such, as trees and water. I think I prefer the man made texture more because it is more appealing to me.
Did it allow you to be creative: Yes it allowed me to be creative because I was able to go out in the world and take how many I wanted and what ever type of texture. I could also me creative when using photoshop, which helped me to extend and refine my work.
Did you improve your Knowledge and skills: Yes I was able to improve my Knowledge and skills by expanding my learning and the amount of information I need when using the camera on manual. I also leant how to build my Weebly site and present my work in a professional way.
Did you prefer taking photos:Yes I preferred taking photos because it is a bit better than doing computer work. It allowed me to be a bit more 'hands-on' and I enjoyed going out on location.
Did you enjoy setting up location shoots: Yes because we were able to go to Padley Gorge and go outside. This really helped me understand how to use the camera on the different settings.
What new techniques have you experienced: I have learnt how to create a website and use GCSE photoshop to help me develop my images.
What technique would you like to develop further: I would like to develop my understanding of lighting a little bit further so I can get the sharpest image. I hope to do this in my next project.
What photographers did you research on through this project: During this project I researched Richard Wong who specializes in the outdoors. I found his photographs the most inspiring. I also looked at Weston's work and this helped me with my first studio shots, using fruit, vegetables and man made objects.
